The city through the trees...

In a city where you hardly see any trees, it's pretty amazing to be in the middle of a park and remember what you're missing! The snow makes them look like lace against the gray winter sky. These pictures were taken in Madison Square Park in Manhattan.

A Walk to Remember

I walked about a mile in the snow to the PATH train on Thursday after the big snowstorm, and took a whole bunch of pictures. Here's a few...

Then when I arrived in the city for work, I was greeted by the glorious sight of Madison Square Park covered in snow. Gorgeous!

Portuguese Dreams...

Today is sooooooo cold in the city- it's making me dig through photos of my wonderfully warm trip to Portugal...here's some dreamy shots to get you through to your next warm vacation :)
Also, here are some songs that have been on my playlist non-stop that make me feel like the weather is warm, even when it's below zero.

Agatha

So I've recently re-discovered my love of Agatha Christie, mostly through PBS's Mystery! and Masterpiece Mystery series (I literally giggle with glee when I see Poirot or Miss Marple sitting in my DVR. Not actually sitting, just listed. You know). I decided to read some of her lesser-known works since I've already read Murder on the Orient Express and the other famous ones. As you can tell from the left side of my blog, I am currently reading the Secret Adversary, and am enjoying Tuppence and Tommy very much. If only my job were to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea...

Snowfall again

Gorgeous snow this morning...let's watch Hoboken unfold before us...

Happy Place...

It's been a pretty rough week at work, so I thought I'd take this moment to go to my happy place...which always involves my dog Murphy. Let's watch him chew on his bone...

Adorable!!! Thanks Murph!

Snowy night...

This is an amazing video for one of my favorite songs by one of my new favorite artists, S. Carey (Sean Carey of Bon Iver). It really captures the feeling of this time of year for me- the snow and cold makes everything seem so quiet and still. Each moment in this video is like a beautiful photograph.

This video was created by fans of S. Carey and when they sent it to him, he liked it so much that he made it the official video for the song! (Read the full story here) Just goes to show what a little elbow grease and a shot in the dark can do for you :)

The morning commute...

So this morning I had to be into work a bit early and I got to catch a glimpse of the morning's foggy clouds hanging over the city. I took some camera-phone pictures on my walk...

and here's a snowy soundtrack courtesy of NPR to accompany this weather- hope tomorrow is sunnier!

Treasured

I created this Etsy treasury yesterday- one of my favorites so far :)

Don't forget the light...

In my apartment, I get about 2 hours of natural sunlight (between 8:30-10:30am on a very sunny day) which happens to filter in only through my bedroom window onto a narrow windowsill. This is really the only place where I can take photos in natural light, which is my preference. Now, on weekdays I am at work during this prime photo time, so that only leaves weekends for me to take advantage of the sunlight. Therefore, early on weekend mornings (or holidays, like today) you will find me hunched and contorted into all sorts of unnatural positions while I try to capture some light. Here are a few of the results of this weekend's attempts...playing around with some twine and shadows.

Sunday morning breakfast: scrambled eggs and Trader Joe's english muffins. Murphy wants some.
